1946 Rover 16

Welcome to the site, it details the restoration of my Rover P2 which commenced in 1991.

History

The Rover, a York registered vehicle was supplied new to a Plumber in York in 1946. The supplying dealer was Gordon Armstrong Ltd. After many years of use and abuse it was bought in a semi derelict state by Dave Burton of York, who in turn sold it to Harry Johnson of York. Harry has an engine overhaul business and he stripped the car and the shell went of to Colne in Lancs to be restored by Steve Roberts, whilst Harry overhauled the engine.

During Dave’s & Harry’s ownership they collected many new parts with City Garage in York providing many parts as they had been Rover agents.

Tony Simons and his Uncle, Arthur Kendrick purchased the Rover from Harry in 1991 in a stripped state as Harry had taken on another project, a Rover Streamline and didn’t have time or resources to complete two projects.
